THIS! I am so ready to rumble.
I’ve been a big Rocky fan since childhood. I don’t care how many times it comes on television, I’m watching it. Of all the installations Rocky IV is by far my favorite. I still struggle with the moment Apollo Creed falls dead in the ring (THROW IN THE TOWEL!).
Even as one of the series’ biggest fans, I can admit, the films went a bit downhill from there. When I first heard about a Rocky reboot, I wasn’t too enthusiastic. I did not want to watch Rock (*in my Paulie voice*) stumble through the streets fighting anymore. But this…oh this is way different than I imagined.
A. I’ve always loved how Rocky explores the ups and downs of fame and fortune. This trailer made me wonder what happened to Apollo’s family after he died was murdered unexpectedly by Drago.
B. I trust Wallace Michael B. Jordan. Similar to Apollo’s death, I can barely get through that episode of The Wire. I believe he has the acting chops to carry this role way better than any other young guns Rocky trained (ya’ll remember Tommy Gunn though?).
What makes Rocky so special is that it has a great storyline, action, some loving and humor — pretty much everything you could want in an entertaining film. In my upcoming title, Exes & O’s, two characters have a debate about the movie’s proper genre.
