Here’s a quick rundown of my highlights from the launch celebration for Exes and O’s in Atlanta!
1. First of all, I almost canceled the event. As a recovering perfectionist, sometimes when things don’t look like they’re progressing to my liking, I’d rather scrap it. Publishing + Event Planning isn’t the best combination, but I’m glad I did not.
What’s the saying? Sometimes when you’re that close to something it’s better to just do it. You’re like close to success right after you fail. Or something inspirational like that.” ~Friend (who isn’t well versed in inspirational sayings but tried)
2. The Kiss and Tell session was my favorite part and not just because of the wine! It was nice to gather with a group of beautiful, intelligent women and chat about the Xs and Os of life and relationships. “Dating a friend’s ex” was a unanimous no-no (unless it was middle school, UNLESS he was your first, true love lol)
3. I’m from the Darius Lovehall school of thought when it comes to “shoutouts.” So many people play an integral role in anything I do. However, it was nice to be able to say “thank you” and give my supporters a HUGE hug. I had a great team of family members and friends there to help set-up, entertain and take down after the event. I don’t know how I could have done it without them. <3
4. The Green Monster Juice (ripped straight from the pages of Exes and O’s) really tastes like jolly ranchers. [Recipe: 1 big bottle of Ciroc vodka, 1 big bottle of apple juice, 2 medium bottles of sour apple martini mixer, splash of lemon juice]
5. Hearing and watching people react to your words is an AMAZING experience!! I like to laugh when I write and read so I was happy that others “got” where I was going with the characters, setting and circumstances.
6. It’s hard to talk about a sequel without spoiling the first installment. I highly recommend reading Don’t Let Me Fall first. There are lots of twists and turns and things get even messier in Exes and O’s. As I mentioned during my kiss and tell Q&A session, my ultimate goal is to have a FAMILY of books. Each one adds another piece to the puzzle and eventually you will have a full picture!
Extra point:
7. Despite the extreme exhaustion, I felt READY to do it again. Where to next, Athens, Augusta, Chicago, Dallas, D.C., NYC???
